A marquee lets you put the whole company in one space while still being outdoors. You get a roof and a floor on a lawn or courtyard that would otherwise be open to the weather. Ten of the 20 venues here take more than 800 guests.
Evolution Battersea Park takes 3,000 standing or 2,000 seated. The HAC Summer Marquee holds 2,400 in the City, and Somerset House, Fountain Court 2,500. London Summer House (2,000) is purpose-built for summer events on the South Bank. Regents College in Regent's Park and Westminster Abbey take 1,000 each.
Middle Temple (750) has a garden overlooking the Thames. Inner Temple Garden (600) is close to Blackfriars. Sands End (500) sits in 20 acres of parkland in Fulham. BMA House Courtyard (320) is enclosed by the building on three sides. Winchester House near Putney Bridge is the one small option, for up to 100.
A marquee keeps the rain off but can get hot on a sunny day. Ask whether the sides open and how the space is cooled or heated. With a big crowd, plan arrivals, cloakroom and bar queues carefully. Check where the toilets and kitchen are, and how long the venue needs to set up and clear.
